INTERVIEW
1) Can you tell The M.F.I.C members a little bit about yourself?
I am a firefighter in the US Air Force. I have been in for almost 8 years now. As well as being in the Air Force, I am currently getting my personal trainers certification and a degree in kinesiology. I should be all done with that in April 09.
2) What were your initial motivations for transforming your body?
I was switching my job in the Air Force to be a firefighter. I knew I had to be in great shape to do the one job I always wanted to do.
3) How long have you been on your program for and what kind of success have you experienced so far?
I have been on my program for roughly 2 years now. I have had some success so far. I was one of the winners in the January '08 issue of Flex magazine for a contest called "Flex Your Military Muscles". I have also had 2 articles written on me about my transformation on bodybuilding.com.
4) How has this success changed your day-to-day life for the better?
It has not changed it too much. It keeps me driven that is for sure. It has also made me push myself harder to achieve certain goals.
5) Did you experience any setbacks along the way? If so, what were they and how did you get past them?
Of course, who does not have set backs?
The main one was I broke my ankle in two spots about 7 months ago. I was not able to do too much for about 4 months. That set me back a lot but as soon as the doctor cleared me I was back in the gym training with full intensity.
6) What type of training plan has worked best for you?
I am currently on a 3 day on, 1 day off routine. I do cardio for 30-40 minutes 5 days a week too. That seems to work best for me.
7) What type of nutrition plan has worked best for you?
Well right now I am nine weeks out from a show so my diet is way different than normal. I am currently eating 6-7 meals a day. 2 of those are protein shakes. But since I am training for a show my diet mainly consist of egg whites, fish and steamed vegetables and salad.
8) What muscle building and/or fat loss supplements have you used? Which ones worked for you and which ones didn’t?
I have tried all different brands. Beverly International seems to work the best. They are a little pricey but if you do your research online you can find some good deals out there.
9) What are your future fitness goals?
Well right now my future goals are to do well in the show I have in Dec. I also am looking to switch careers and get more involved in the fitness industry, whether that be personal training or something else that still remains to be seen. I have a few more months of classes left, then we will see what happens from there.
10) What are the top 3 tips you would give to others who are interested in beginning a muscle building and/or fat burning program?
Mainly just stick to it, listen to your body and stay motivated. It will all pay off in the end.
