INTERVIEW
1) Can you tell The M.F.I.C members a little bit about yourself?
My name is Kenny Miyasato and I'm a poor college student that likes to workout out as a hobby. I also like to play video games, hang out with my friends, and try to eat as much as I can so that I don't lose my muscle mass!
2) What were your initial motivations for transforming your body?
My motivation to start bodybuilding was to not feel inferior. By inferior I mean being short and skinny. My height is 5'5 and I used to be skinny.
Another motivation was my friends getting into bodybuilding too. We all got memberships to go to a gym and we used go there to lift. With bodybuilding I achieved a better physique and became wider.
3) How long have you been on your program for and what kind of success have you experienced so far?
I've been training for about 8 months and I gained about 17 lbs of muscle. I went from 108 to 125 since I've been training. All my family and friends have been amazed at me for gaining so much weight, because I used to be very skinny so it was a very big change for me.
When I first started I could only do 90lbs on squats, and now that I've been working out for awhile I'm doing 275lbs. Another increase in strength was deadlifts; I started with 80lbs and now I'm doing 240lbs.
4) How has this success changed your day-to-day life for the better?
This has really changed my life completely because before I used to feel very vulnerable because I used to be very skinny and short. Now at least I can be short but muscular.
I also have more energy and stamina for any sport and I'm feeling the best about my body right now.
5) Did you ever experience any setbacks along the way? If so, what were they and how did you get past them?
Yes, there was a very painful and long recovery in my bodybuilding journey. I got a herniated disc in my lower lumbar because of the deadlift. I lifted it wrong and 2 weeks after I couldn't get out of bed because my left leg hurt so much.
I went to the doctor and he told me to go see a specialist. I got 3 epidural shots so my disc could heal quicker and I couldn't workout for about half a year. This was one of the biggest setbacks in bodybuilding.
In my time off I literally lost all of my new muscle mass, I went back to square one... But after 2 months of hard training and eating I gained it all back.
6) What type of training plan has worked best for you?
The best workout plan was Sean Nalewanyj's; I think his workout plans were what made me go from very skinny to very muscular.
3 workouts per week, one hour per session, high intensity and low volume hitting each muscle group once per week with a focus on progression in weight and reps.
7) What type of nutrition plan has worked best for you?
Before I reached a plateau I used to not eat a lot. I lost a month of work because I got stuck at 118 pounds and I couldn't get past it.
I thought my eating was right but I was eating too little. What helped me and probably would help others was Black Hole by Controlled Labs. It really works. What Black Hole does is it helps you to not feel full. When you are eating you cannot stop because you just don't get full anymore, so you eat, eat, and eat until you already know that you have had enough.
With this my body weight went through the roof; I think that's how I gained all my muscle mass so quickly.
8) What muscle building and/or fat loss supplements have you used? Which ones worked for you and which ones didn’t?
Black Hole (as stated above), Super Pump 250 is really good, Nano Vapor is really good too,. Both Nano Vapor and Super Pump are like drinking 3 Red Bulls; they help you get pumped so you can be able to give it your all.
GNC Weight Gainer 2200 is good too. If you take the recommended amount you are consuming about 2200 calories. I take about 1000 calories with this and it's a really good weight gainer and cheap (although its taste is not so great).
9) What are your future fitness goals?
My future goal for bodybuilding is finally reaching 140lbs and the year after about 155lbs and maybe after that I would like to compete in a show, so we are looking at about 2 years worth of work.
I also know how not to mess up again and lose another 6 months because of a herniated disc, so I know now that that is not going to happen.
10) What are the top 3 tips you would give to others who are interested in beginning a muscle building and/or fat burning program?
My first tip for anyone getting started is to keep going, never stop, even if you feel like bodybuilding is not helping you gain muscle, you are wrong. You have to do it for at least 2-4 weeks in order to see significant weight gain or notable muscle mass.
Second tip is do the exercises properly. I cannot stress this enough, because of this I got my herniated disc. I wouldn't want other people getting the same thing; it's very painful and this is one of the longest periods I have gone without lifting.
My 3rd tip is to always keep yourself motivated. It could be with family, friends, girls, or anyone. Ask them how you used to look before, and how much you've changed. That's the best inspiration you are going to get because they are your closest people around you.
